11:30am The parades begin! Funky olde’ time community parade starts at Waverly & Market. The children’s route turns left on Central, right on 3rd and ends at the West entrance to Kirkland Parkplace. The “big” parade follows the same route but continues on 3rd, turns right on Kirkland Ave and proceeds through Marina Park back to Waverly.





2008 Parade Participants:
At long last here is the parade order you all have been anxiously awaiting.  I want you all to know this is an incredible amount of work on the part of the staging team and many volunteers. Please thank them and listen to them.  They are there to help you. The way it works is this:
1.
 Staging will take place on Market Street, Waverly Way and 5th Avenue West. You may enter the staging area from either west bound 7th or south bound on Market.  Please review the attached map.  There will be staging volunteers in orange or green vests at key points with radios to help you.


2.
    		Please plan to be in your spots by 10:30.  We know this is early but you will have time to meet your neighbors and decorate decorate decorate!


3.
 Street Closures …some happen at 9:30 AM and the rest at 10:30 AM.

 Use the Staging Volunteers to assist you to find your location.


5.
 When you get to your spot you will find 2 sheets clipped to the stake with your number.  Please take one of the numbers with you to show the emcees at the grandstand …so they can tell the crowd about you.


6.
 There will be Porta-Potties located near both ends of Waverly Park. Ask one of the staging volunteers for exact locations.


7.
 Please do not plan to park extra vehicles in Waverley Park. Try to find parking either north of 5th Ave. West or east of Market


8.
 The children's parade will start at 11:30 AM at Market and Central.


9.
 The big parade start is at Market and Central.  This means that we have purposefully set things up for viewing to begin there.  Further up the hill on Market is simply staging and you need not perform on the Market hill at all.

 After the kids go, we will leave a space. Then the vets will move up to Lake and Central where the National Anthem will be sung. At that time, many of the rest of you will move too.  Some will follow the vets and some will move onto Market into the northbound lane.  These moves are in preparation for parade start.  So many of you will move and then stop.  If you don’t move at this time …you weren’t supposed to.

 The parade starts officially when the Veterans and color guard move

 You may do your routine or performance, if you have one, for 30 seconds to one minute in front of the grandstand which is at the Lake and Central parking lot.

 Perhaps the most important note of all is that you need to stay near the group ahead of you.  Last year we did this better but there were still some huge gaps.  Those gaps equaled boring dead air for hundreds of the parade goers who are the folks we are here to enthrall and delight.  Please keep up the pace and if you get a little behind because of your routine …make every effort to catch up quickly!!

 You must not stop in Marina Park or really anywhere on the route.


15.
 Please be reminded there is no candy throwing, you may have walkers hand out candy if you wish.

 The parade ends when you get back up into the neighborhood north of Waverly. Please do not stop on Waverley Way!

We have tried really hard to keep all of your requests in mind, and also to make this an enjoyable and exciting parade for the spectators.  Be reminded that we are all volunteers and we do this because we are patriots, we love Kirkland and we love our parade founder Penny Sweet.  Without her pulling this together a few years ago we would not be having this much fun!!  See you on Friday.
